Position: Cashier

Status:   Part Time (up to 20 hours/week or maximum of 1,040 hours/year) and/or Seasonal (up to 40 hours/week April-May)

Position Overview:

A Cashier's primary role is to assist customers in the in-store check-out process. Main duties include ringing up sales, bagging items, requesting price checks, honoring coupons, collecting payment, and giving appropriate change. Responsible for counting the contents of cash register drawer at the end of each shift, maintaining receipts, records, and withdrawals. Provides excellent customer service.  A Cashier works under the immediate supervision of the Head Cashier.


Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Handle cash, credit or check transactions with customers

  • Scan goods and collect payments

  • Ensure pricing is correct

  • Issue change, receipts, refunds, or tickets

  • Redeem gift cards or other promotional rewards

  • Resolve customer complaints, guide them and provide relevant information

  • Bag, box, and wrap items carefully

  • Greet customers when entering or leaving establishment

  • Maintain clean and tidy checkout areas

  • Process returns and check to see if items are damaged

  • Answer customers' questions and get a manager if answer doesn't solve the issue

  • Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure satisfaction

  • Check in and price inventory

  • Other duties as assigned by Head Cashier


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic math skills

  • Familiarity with Point of Sales Systems (POS) or other computer skills

  • Verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions

  • Product knowledge

  • Telephone etiquette

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Ability to work efficiently

  • Ability to work as a member of  team

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time

  • Ability to lift items weighing 25lbs or more


Education and Training:

  • Fulfilled or working towards high school diploma or its equivalent

  • Prior experience in retail or other customer service desirable but not required
